Overview
- Phase I, which opened Wednesday, drew about 55,000 households to the new portal across eight states and union territories.
- President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan and Home Minister Amit Shah completed self-enumeration to launch the drive.
- Self-enumeration runs for 15 days in each area, then enumerators verify entries during door-to-door house listing that starts April 16 in the first regions.
- Phase I records 33 details on housing, amenities and assets, and Phase II in early 2027 will count people and include caste data using March 1, 2027 as the reference date for most areas.
- Officials say the portal works in 16 languages, creates a unique Self-Enumeration ID for field checks and keeps responses confidential under the Census Act with encryption and multi-factor authentication.
