India Becomes 6th-Largest Patent Filer With Over 64,000 Applications

• Union minister Jitendra Singh announced the milestone at INNOTECH’25 hosted by KIET Deemed University in Ghaziabad.
• He said more than 55% of recent patent applications were filed by resident Indian innovators, marking a break from earlier reliance on foreign institutions.
• India’s position in the Global Innovation Index was cited as improving from rank 81 to rank 38 over recent years.
• The tech fest brought together industry leaders, researchers, and more than 20 venture capitalists to help move prototypes and research toward commercialization.
• Singh highlighted achievements such as Chandrayaan-3, a domestically developed DNA vaccine, indigenous antibiotics, and gene-therapy trials, and referenced DST and government schemes like INSPIRE, MANAK, Mudra, PM‑SVANidhi, PM‑Vishwakarma, and Vaibhav to bolster entrepreneurship and skills.
