India, Bangladesh Set DG-Level Border Talks in Dhaka for Aug. 25–28

Officials expect limited outcomes given Bangladesh's interim government.

Overview

  • BSF Director General Daljit Singh Chawdhary and BGB Director General Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui will lead the delegations.
  • The agenda includes action against Indian Insurgent Groups, curbing trans-border crime, protecting personnel and civilians, border infrastructure, single-row fence construction, and implementation of the Coordinated Border Management Plan.
  • BSF has reported BGB blocks at several fence sites with roughly a dozen locations still unresolved for single-row fencing within 150 meters of the border.
  • Official data show 864.48 km of the IndiaBangladesh border remains unfenced, including 174.51 km deemed non-feasible for fencing.
  • The Home Ministry has cleared BSF participation, with coverage noting this as the first Indian delegation visit to Dhaka since Sheikh Hasina’s 2024 ouster, and the talks were shifted from July to August for administrative reasons.
