India Auto Sales Hit Records in October After Festive Rush and GST Cuts

Analysts warn the festival-driven spike may not persist beyond the season.

Overview

  • Maruti Suzuki set a new monthly high with 220,894 total sales and led retail deliveries at about 242,000, according to FADA.
  • Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles posted record wholesales of 61,295, with SUVs at a 77% share and EVs up to 9,286 units.
  • Mahindra & Mahindra recorded its best-ever SUV month at 71,624 domestic units and 120,142 total vehicles, a 26% year-on-year rise.
  • Other manufacturers also surged, with Kia hitting a record 29,556 and Toyota reaching 42,892, while Hyundai’s domestic sales dipped to 53,792.
  • The spike reflects GST 2.0 cuts that moved many small cars to an 18% tax with the cess removed, plus concentrated NavratriDiwali deliveries and some dispatch constraints.
