India Approves Rs 7,877 Crore in ECMS Projects to Expand Electronics Component Output

Delivering early production within months, the projects are set to create nearly 10,000 jobs, push ECMS approvals past original targets, reduce import reliance

Overview

  • The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology cleared 31 proposals under the fifth ECMS tranche worth Rs 7,877 crore, the ministry said on Monday.
  • The approvals are projected to generate about Rs 82,243 crore of production and create close to 10,000 jobs as multiple plants move toward commissioning in one to six months.
  • Short near‑term timelines include Kaynes's PCB plant expected within about a month, Dixon's facility in roughly four months, and Motherson and Wipro plants in two to three months.
  • The tranche targets key parts such as printed circuit boards, camera and display modules, connectors, rare‑earth permanent magnets, speakers, microphones and related inputs.
  • With these approvals cumulative ECMS commitments now stand at roughly Rs 69,500 crore in approved investment and about Rs 5.34 lakh crore in approved production, exceeding the scheme's original targets and signaling faster domestic supply‑chain buildout since the April 2025 launch.
