Overview
- The Home Ministry has approved the formation of dedicated BSF drone squadrons to neutralise hostile UAVs along the more than 3,300-kilometre India-Pakistan frontier.
- Selected BSF personnel are undergoing training in surveillance, reconnaissance, attack and electronic warfare roles ahead of squadron deployment.
- A central control room at the BSF’s western command headquarters in Chandigarh will coordinate real-time operations of the new UAV units.
- Border outposts across Gujarat, Rajasthan, Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir are being reinforced with alloy sheets and structural upgrades to withstand drone strikes.
- Officials have engaged international partners and domestic manufacturers with assured funding to procure advanced drones and counter-drone systems for the squadrons.
