India Approves 297 Day Care Cancer Centres for FY2025–26

The move will channel National Health Mission funds to district hospitals identified through ICMR data as having critical oncology gaps.

Overview

  • Parliament has approved 297 new Day Care Cancer Centres across India for the financial year 2025–26.
  • The centres will be established primarily in district hospitals subject to available space and logistics, with additional sites in other government health facilities where states deem feasible.
  • The Health Ministry’s allocation plan drew on an ICMR-led national gap analysis and was finalized by the National Programme Coordination Committee after state consultations.
  • Uttar Pradesh leads with 75 approved centres, followed by Telangana with 33 and Maharashtra with 27 sites in high-burden districts.
  • Unit costs for each centre may reach Rs 1.49 crore and will be funded through the NHM’s State Resource Envelopes pending final site readiness.
