  • The Ministry of Home Affairs has appointed Solicitor General Tushar Mehta and a team of senior legal experts as Special Public Prosecutors in the case against Tahawwur Rana.
  • The team will oversee proceedings in the NIA Special Courts, Delhi High Court, and Supreme Court, with a tenure of three years or until the trial concludes.
  • Rana, extradited from the United States in April 2025, is accused of assisting David Headley in reconnaissance efforts for the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks.
  • The legal team’s appointment is authorized under the National Investigation Agency Act, 2008, and Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023.
