Overview
- The Satish Dhawan Space Centre will host the NISAR launch at 17:40 local time (12:10 GMT) on July 30, 2025.
- NASA has invested $1.2 billion and ISRO $90 million in the mission, with both agencies sharing satellite construction and testing responsibilities.
- Once in orbit, NISAR will deploy its 12 m radar antenna to capture nearly all land and ice surfaces twice every 12 days.
- Its radar can detect ground shifts as small as one centimeter to support early warning of earthquakes, landslides and infrastructure wear.
- The project builds on India’s recent space milestones and reinforces U.S.-India scientific collaboration ahead of India’s planned 2027 crewed Gaganyaan mission.
