India and U.S. Conclude 21st Yudh Abhyas in Alaska

Officials said the two-week training strengthened interoperability in sub‑arctic operations.

Overview

  • The exercise ran from September 1 to 14 at Fort Wainwright and the Yukon Training Area, concluding Monday local time.
  • Roughly 450 soldiers from each side took part, with an Indian Army battalion from the Madras Regiment training alongside U.S. troops from the 11th Airborne Division.
  • Command‑post activities paired Indian and American officers on operational planning, command and control, and coordination across brigade and battalion levels.
  • Field training in sub‑arctic terrain covered small‑unit maneuvers, reconnaissance and sniper skills, counter‑IED tasks, obstacles and demolitions, and mortar live‑fire to hone fire control and communications.
  • The final phase integrated infantry, artillery, aviation, electronic warfare and counter‑drone systems under joint command, highlighted during a September 11 Distinguished Visitor Day with combined battle group operations.
