Overview

  • The two-day exercise on June 9–10 involved INS Tabar, an Indian submarine, P-8I patrol aircraft and the UK Carrier Strike Group led by HMS Prince of Wales.
  • Operations included unified helicopter control, coordinated anti-submarine warfare, tactical manoeuvres and professional exchanges among officers.
  • The PASSEX follows high-level engagements such as Defence Secretary R K Singh’s April visit to the UK and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s January call with UK Defence Secretary John Healey.
  • It reinforces commitments under the May 2021 Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and its 2030 Roadmap for defence, climate, trade, education and technology.
  • The drill is part of India’s intensified post-Operation Sindoor military programme, which includes US Special Forces exercises and an upcoming trilateral wargame in Mongolia.
