India and UK Begin Konkan-25, Their First Carrier Strike Group Exercise Together

The eight-day training focuses on complex multi-domain warfare to deepen interoperability in the Indo-Pacific.

Overview

  • Konkan-25 runs October 5–12 off India’s western coast in sea and harbour phases featuring professional exchanges and joint drills.
  • India’s INS Vikrant operates with MiG-29K fighters while the UK’s HMS Prince of Wales fields F-35B jets as both navies deploy carriers, destroyers, frigates and submarines.
  • Japan’s JS Akebono and Norway’s HNoMS Roald Amundsen are participating alongside the UK Carrier Strike Group.
  • The sea phase includes anti-air, anti-surface and anti-submarine warfare, flying operations and other seamanship evolutions to enhance interoperability.
  • After the drill, the UK group will visit Mumbai and Goa, then conduct a one-day aerial defence exercise with the Indian Air Force on October 14 as part of its Operation Highmast deployment.
