India and UAE Announce Defence, LNG and Investment Steps in Two-Hour Delhi Visit

Leaders used the brief stop in New Delhi to lock in a defence partnership roadmap and deepen energy and technology cooperation.

Overview

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally received UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed at the Delhi airport before talks at Lok Kalyan Marg during a visit that lasted under two hours.
  • Both sides signed a Letter of Intent to work toward a Strategic Defence Partnership and reaffirmed closer security and counter-terrorism cooperation.
  • Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited and ADNOC Gas concluded a 10-year LNG supply agreement starting in 2028 to strengthen India’s energy security.
  • An investment Letter of Intent was signed between Gujarat and the UAE Ministry of Investment for Dholera Special Investment Region projects, including an airport, port, MRO facilities and related infrastructure.
  • New cooperation included a space industry LoI between IN-SPACe and the UAE Space Agency, plans to expand civil nuclear collaboration under India’s SHANTI law, a goal to raise bilateral trade to $200 billion by 2032, and consultations on tensions involving IranUS relations, Yemen and Gaza.
