India and Russia Mark 25 Years of Strategic Partnership With Push on Trade Deal

Moscow’s envoy ties an EAEUIndia FTA to the $100 billion trade target set for 2030.

Overview

  • Russian Ambassador Denis Alipov marked the anniversary, framing the partnership as a comprehensive framework that has guided coordinated positions on security and broad cooperation.
  • He highlighted enduring collaboration across nuclear energy, defence, space, science, education and people-to-people exchanges.
  • New focus areas cited by Alipov include small modular reactors, railways, shipbuilding, aircraft construction, trade corridors, connectivity, Arctic research and labour mobility.
  • Alipov said an early conclusion to EAEUIndia FTA talks would support the 2030 goal of lifting bilateral trade to $100 billion, a target set by Vladimir Putin and Narendra Modi in 2024.
  • He pointed to a New Delhi summit later this year coinciding with the 15th anniversary of the relationship’s ‘special and privileged’ status, as well as momentum in innovation programs such as Sirius and Atal Innovation Mission.
