India and Norway Strengthen Ocean Governance Collaboration at UNOC3 in France
Ministers unveiled plans to expand data sharing, scale up plastic cleanup efforts, launch a digital ocean data portal

- On June 11 in Nice, Dr Jitendra Singh and Norway’s Fisheries Minister Marianne Sivertsen Ness held a bilateral meeting at UNOC3 to reaffirm their commitment to sustainable ocean governance and fisheries.
- The two sides agreed to strengthen cooperation on marine resource management, improve data sharing mechanisms and jointly tackle overfishing and marine pollution.
- Singh unveiled major strides under India’s Deep Ocean Mission, including progress on a manned submersible and a nationwide ban on single-use plastics.
- India pushed for swift ratification of the Biodiversity Beyond National Jurisdiction Agreement, advocated a legally binding Global Plastics Treaty and launched the SAHAV digital ocean data portal.
- The third United Nations Ocean Conference, running June 9–13 in Nice, brings global leaders together to discuss ocean health, climate resilience and blue economy development.
