India and Nepal Launch Suryakiran XIX With Tech-Driven Mountain Drills

The exercise prioritizes interoperability with drones, AI tools and unmanned logistics under a UN peacekeeping framework.

Overview

  • The 14-day bilateral exercise began November 25 at Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand and runs through December 8.
  • Equal contingents of 334 personnel each are participating, led by India’s Assam Regiment and Nepal’s Devi Datta Regiment.
  • Training integrates Unmanned Aerial Systems, drone-based ISR, AI-enabled decision support, unmanned logistic vehicles and armoured protection platforms.
  • Units will rehearse sub-conventional operations aligned with Chapter VII of the United Nations mandate for peace enforcement scenarios.
  • The scope includes jungle and mountain counter-terrorism drills, HADR and medical response, environmental conservation and integrated ground-aviation operations with simulations to refine tactics.
