India and Nepal Conclude Surya Kiran–XIX With DGMO Validation in Pithoragarh

The closing validation showcased interoperable counter-terrorism drills under a UN mandate using drones, AI-enabled feeds, secure communications.

Overview

  • The DGMOs, Lt Gen Manish Luthra of India and Maj Gen Anup Jung Thapa of Nepal, jointly witnessed a two-day battalion-level validation at the Foreign Training Node in Pithoragarh on December 9.
  • The exercise validated joint tactics, techniques and procedures for counter-terrorism operations mandated under Chapter VII of the UN Charter.
  • Drills integrated ISR and precision-targeting drones, AI-enabled surveillance feeds, unmanned operational and logistics platforms, advanced day/night sights, and secure battlefield communications.
  • Training emphasized seamless interoperability through synchronized planning and combined operations at battalion, company and small-team levels, including intelligence-led surgical actions and aerial insertion in complex terrain.
  • The 19th edition ran from November 25 to December 8 with 334 personnel from each side, primarily the Assam Regiment for India and the Devi Datta Regiment for Nepal, and concluded with the DGMOs planting a ‘Tree of Friendship’.
