India and Maldives Rebuild Defence Ties After Diplomatic Rift

India expressed readiness to enhance Maldives' defence preparedness, including providing defence platforms and assets aligned with Maldives' national priorities.
The renewed dialogue follows last year's withdrawal of Indian military personnel from the Maldives, a move driven by President Muizzu's pro-China stance after his election.
The talks are part of broader efforts to restore bilateral relations and strengthen security cooperation in the Indian Ocean region under India's 'Neighbourhood First' policy.
