India and Japan Coast Guards Advance Cooperation at 22nd New Delhi Meeting
The talks set immediate follow-ups in Mumbai.
Overview
- ICG Director General Paramesh Sivamani and JCG Commandant Admiral Yoshio Saguchi led the meeting, with Saguchi on a five-day visit at the head of a nine-member delegation.
- Delegations reviewed collaboration in search and rescue, marine pollution response, maritime law enforcement and capacity building, with emphasis on best-practice sharing and interoperability under their MoC.
- Emerging cooperation areas include advanced technology use, information-sharing mechanisms, training programs and personnel exchanges.
- The Japanese delegation will visit Mumbai on January 16–17 for an industrial tour of Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders and professional exchanges to strengthen operational and industrial linkages.
- Japan affirmed participation in India’s upcoming 5th Coast Guard Global Summit and International Coast Guard Fleet Review, including deployment of a ship and aircraft, and a JCG National Strike Team will run a joint HNS spill-response drill with the ICG in Mumbai.
