Overview

  • The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, suspended since 2020 due to the pandemic and border tensions, will resume between June and August 2025.
  • A total of 750 Indian pilgrims will participate, divided into 15 batches—five via Lipulekh Pass (Uttarakhand) and ten via Nathu La Pass (Sikkim).
  • Pilgrims will be selected through a fully computerised, random, and gender-balanced process via the kmy.gov.in portal, which is now accepting applications.
  • The resumption follows high-level India-China discussions, including troop disengagement agreements and commitments to rebuild bilateral relations.
  • Infrastructure improvements, such as the 2020 road connecting Dharchula to Lipulekh, have reduced travel time and will support the pilgrimage's logistics.
