India and China Hold First High-Level Border Talks in Five Years
The two nations reached a six-point consensus to ease tensions and resume cooperation, following a years-long military standoff.
- India's National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Beijing for the 23rd Special Representatives meeting on the border dispute, the first since 2019.
- The talks focused on maintaining peace along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), resuming cross-border exchanges, and strengthening confidence-building measures.
- Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to a fair, reasonable, and mutually acceptable resolution of the boundary issue, guided by principles agreed upon in 2005.
- Agreements included the resumption of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, cross-border river cooperation, and trade at the Nathula Pass in Sikkim.
- A follow-up meeting is planned in India next year, as both nations aim to rebuild trust and stabilize bilateral relations after years of tension.
