  • The 8th Joint Defence Committee meeting took place in Brasília on July 30 as the latest formal milestone in a defence dialogue launched in 2003.
  • The meeting was steered by India’s Joint Secretary (IC) Shri Vishwesh Negi alongside Brazil’s Maj Gen Willain Koji Kamei.
  • On the sidelines, Negi held talks with Fleet Admiral Renato Rodrigues de Aguiar Freire, chief of the Joint Staff of the Brazilian Armed Forces.
  • Delegates outlined plans for joint exercises, co-development of transport aircraft and AWACS platforms, procurement of air defence and communications systems, technology-sharing partnerships.
  • The meeting follows June’s advanced procurement discussions, builds on the 2024 2+2 Political-Military Dialogue, embeds new initiatives within the established defence framework.
