Overview
- The tenth round of the AITIGA review concluded in New Delhi from August 10 to 14, with participation from all ten ASEAN member states and a focus on bolstering the agreement’s effectiveness, accessibility and trade facilitation.
- The AITIGA Joint Committee scheduled its eleventh session for October 6–7 at the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta, hosted by Malaysia, with negotiators targeting a 2025 completion of the review.
- Seven of eight technical subcommittees met alongside the plenary to address customs procedures, legal and institutional issues, market access, sanitary and phytosanitary standards, rules of origin, conformity assessment and trade remedies.
- On August 14, India and Singapore convened the fourth JWGTI meeting in New Delhi to explore priority sectors, logistics enhancements, semiconductor cooperation and regulatory streamlining.
- India-ASEAN goods trade reached USD 123 billion in 2024–25, representing 11% of India’s global trade, with Singapore alone contributing USD 34.26 billion in bilateral trade and USD 163.85 billion in FDI equity inflows since 2000.
