Overview
- A high-level Indian delegation led by Gujarat Sports Minister Harsh Sanghavi and IOA President P T Usha held its first official meeting at IOC headquarters in Lausanne from July 1–2.
- During continuous dialogue with IOC officials, India formally confirmed Ahmedabad in Gujarat as its preferred host city for the 2036 Summer Olympics.
- The delegation engaged with ANOC, the International Volleyball Federation and SportAccord to highlight Gujarat’s sports infrastructure and event-hosting potential.
- IOC President Kirsty Coventry announced a pause in the host selection process and has convened a working group to increase member involvement and assess past hosts’ experiences.
- India’s bid now vies with proposals from Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Turkey, Chile and others, with a final decision expected after the working group report post-2026.
