  • IIT Bombay Consortium‑BharatGen, Fractal Analytics, Tech Mahindra, Avataar AI, Zeinteiq Aitech Innovations, Genloop Intelligence, NeuroDX and Shodh AI join four earlier awardees—Sarvam AI, Gnani AI, Soket AI and Gan AI.
  • IIT Bombay Consortium‑BharatGen will receive ₹988.6 crore to build a one‑trillion‑parameter foundational model for Indic use cases in government services, while Fractal gets ₹34.58 crore for reasoning LLMs and Tech Mahindra ₹1.06 crore for an 8‑billion‑parameter Hindi‑dialect model.
  • About 38,000 GPUs are deployed under the mission, with 10,000 more planned and an official projection of 50,000 by end‑2025, though only Sarvam AI and Gnani AI have received subsidised GPU access so far as others complete paperwork.
  • The governance framework, developed by Principal Scientific Advisor Ajay Kumar Sood with the IT ministry after over 3,000 consultations, will offer guidance on safety boundaries, harm‑response mechanisms and checks for responsible deployment, with parts potentially codified later.
  • The government plans more than 500 AI data labs—200 by March 2026 toward a total of 570—and is preparing to host the IndiaAI Impact Summit in February 2026 focused on AI safety, with options being explored to share GPU capacity with Global South partners.
