R Ashwin Questons Gautam Gambhir's Latest Move; Highlights Potential Risk Of Injuries

Overview

  • Team management has introduced the Bronco alongside the Yo-Yo test and a 2km time trial under strength and conditioning coach Adrian le Roux.
  • The shift follows observations during the Anderson–Tendulkar Trophy that some fast bowlers lacked running-based endurance and leaned too heavily on gym work.
  • The Bronco requires five continuous sets of 20m, 40m and 60m shuttles totaling 1,200 metres, typically targeted in under six minutes with no recovery breaks.
  • The test is being trialed at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, with its future as a standard benchmark under evaluation.
  • Ravichandran Ashwin cautioned that frequent changes in trainers and testing methods hinder adaptation and may raise injury risk, urging structured handovers between staff.
