India Accelerates Recruitment to Fill 72,689 of Over 109,000 Paramilitary Vacancies

A memorandum with the Staff Selection Commission underpins initiatives to speed up filling critical paramilitary positions

Overview

  • As of January 1, 2025, the Central Armed Police Forces and Assam Rifles report 109,868 open posts, with the CRPF accounting for 34,869 of those vacancies.
  • Recruitment for 72,689 notified posts is underway through the UPSC, Staff Selection Commission and direct force-led drives.
  • Officials have signed an MoU with the SSC for Constable (GD) recruitment and established a permanent nodal coordination force to oversee accelerated hiring.
  • The government has reduced medical examination time, held timely promotion panels and lowered cut-off marks to expand the candidate pool.
  • Despite raising sanctioned strength to 1,067,110 since 2021, retirements, resignations, promotions, deaths and new battalions continue to create fresh vacancies.
