Overview
- The specialized chamber confirmed in Resolution 0257-2026/SEL-INDECOPI, reported widely on Tuesday, that the S/1,188.50 charge Sunedu applied for recognizing foreign degrees is illegal.
- Indecopi found Sunedu did not calculate the fee using the mandatory PCM cost methodology and failed to justify key inputs such as staff work hours and the number of requests processed.
- The decision orders Sunedu to inaplicar the fee with general effect the day after the resolution’s extract is published in El Peruano while the formal recognition procedure remains in force.
- Indecopi warned that Sunedu could face a sanctioning process and fines of up to 20 UIT (about S/110,000) if it continues to demand the payment after the mandate takes effect.
- Once the mandate is in force, applicants can continue to seek recognition without paying the contested charge and Sunedu may only set a new fee after recalculating and documenting costs per the PCM rules and notifying the public.
