Overview
- Inchcape and Stellantis announced on Wednesday that they have mutually agreed to end Inchcape’s role as Peugeot’s Australian distributor, with a transition period and final date to be confirmed.
- During the transition Inchcape will continue selling existing stock and provide warranty, servicing and recall support for current Peugeot owners.
- Stellantis has said it will maintain continuity of the brand in Australia but has not confirmed whether it will take over importing itself or appoint a new local distributor.
- Peugeot’s local volumes have plunged from a 2007 peak of 8,807 to 1,350 units in 2025 and just 373 deliveries to the end of May 2026, with the Partner van making up roughly 43% of 2026 sales so far.
- The split reflects Inchcape’s shift toward Chinese marques such as Deepal and Foton and comes as Stellantis develops future Peugeot models with Chinese partner Dongfeng, a dynamic that will shape who supplies and supports the brand here and how dealers and owners are affected.
