IMSS Unveils 7.8-Billion-Peso Health Buildout for Michoacán Under Peace and Justice Plan

Federal authorities frame the buildout as the health pillar of a statewide security–development strategy.

  • IMSS announced 39 health projects worth 7.8 billion pesos under the Plan Michoacán in an event with President Claudia Sheinbaum, with commitments moving into planning and timelines not yet disclosed.
  • Two new hospitals are planned: a 260‑bed facility in Villas del Pedregal, Morelia, and another in Zitácuaro.
  • Seven rural hospitals will be converted into zone hospitals, alongside a major rehabilitation of the IMSS hospital in Lázaro Cárdenas and an expansion of specialties at the new Uruapan hospital.
  • A radiotherapy center with a linear accelerator is slated for Morelia, together with five family medicine units in Morelia, Tarímbaro, Lázaro Cárdenas and Nuevo San Juan.
  • Expanded access measures include 19 childcare and education centers across 16 municipalities, conversion of social security centers in Morelia, Los Reyes and Lázaro Cárdenas into IMSS “primeros pilares,” and a free addictions and rehabilitation clinic led by IMSS‑Bienestar.
