IMSS Reports Record 22.8 Million Formal Jobs in October as Platform Pilot Lifts Counts

A pilot enrolling app-based workers inflated the count of new posts.

Overview

  • IMSS registered 22,789,173 insured positions as of October 31, a monthly rise of 217,491 or 1.0%, with 86.8% classified as permanent.
  • Including beneficiaries of the platforms reform, affiliations tied to an employer totaled 24,029,752 at the close of October.
  • In the fourth month of the pilot, 1,114,147 platform workers were enrolled and 150,123 surpassed the income threshold to be counted as full jobs, while others retained risk-insurance coverage.
  • From January to October, 550,794 formal jobs were created (2.5% growth), trailing the same period in 2024 and marking the weakest year-to-date generation in the last decade reported by media using IMSS data.
  • The average daily base wage rose to 622 pesos, the highest for an October on record, with transport and communications, commerce, and electricity leading gains, as authorities fine-tune how to net platform effects and INEGI notes a large share of workers remain outside social security.
