IMSS Reports 6 Million Children Screened in School Health Drive as 374,000 Complete Follow-Up

Parents are being urged to bring children to primary clinics so referrals turn into treatment.

Overview

  • The IMSS-led Vive Feliz, Vive Saludable campaign assessed about 4 million students from March 12 to June 16 and nearly 2 million more from September to October.
  • Officials say the most common needs involve nutritional status, oral health, and visual acuity, including overweight, obesity, short stature, malnutrition, dental issues, and vision problems.
  • IMSS reports 374,423 children have already attended follow-up consultations at IMSS, ISSSTE, or IMSS Bienestar facilities, many during the vacation period.
  • Each screening generates a school health record and a report for families that directs them to a primary-care unit for the recommended visit.
  • When vision correction is needed, consultations lead to the delivery of free eyeglasses through partnerships, which authorities say are already yielding results.
