IMSS Posts 116,765 September Jobs as Record Wage Meets Unclear Platform Boost

The signal is clouded by an IMSS pilot that folds app drivers and couriers into the count without disclosing how many of the gains came from platforms.

Overview

  • IMSS reported 23.761 million affiliations associated to an employer that include platform beneficiaries, versus 22.572 million counted strictly as jobs.
  • Within the pilot, 125,757 platform workers surpassed the income threshold and are treated as formal jobs, yet the institute did not specify how many September additions came from this group.
  • Year-to-date formal job creation reached 333,303 through September, about 27% below the same period in 2024 and the weakest January–September since 2020, according to the coverage.
  • Registered employers fell to 1,039,227, a 2.4% annual decline, extending a reported 17-month slide that IMSS links in part to tighter registration security for individuals.
  • The average base wage rose to 623.1 pesos per day, the highest for any September, while transport and communications led annual job gains (+9.3%) and several states recorded declines led by Tabasco (-8.7%).
