IMPPA Orders Makers of 'Chandni Bar Returns' to Drop Title After Bhandarkar Complaint

IMPPA instructed the new production to stop using the registered name following a complaint from Bhandarkar’s company.

Overview

  • Madhur Bhandarkar lodged a formal complaint with IMPPA alleging unauthorised use of his registered title for a proposed sequel billed as Chandni Bar Returns.
  • In a letter to producer Sandeep Singh’s team, IMPPA said 'Chandni Bar' is registered to M/s Bhandarkar Entertainment and advised them to cease using the title immediately.
  • Legend Studios responded that it has secured option rights from the original producers and cited a trademark record naming Lata Mohan Iyer as proprietor, according to its statement.
  • The studio said its lawyers are replying to trade bodies and said the reimagined sequel is slated for a December 3, 2026 worldwide release.
  • Trade reports previously noted the project is in development with Ajay Bahl directing and casting not finalised, with speculative mentions of new leads and a possible Tabu return.
