IMPI Says It Will Grant Trademarks for 'Carlos Manzo' and 'Movimiento del Sombrero'

The decision advances Mayor Grecia Quiroz’s effort to formalize control of her late husband’s political brand.

IMPI director Santiago Nieto said the applications from Uruapan Mayor Grecia Quiroz meet requirements and will receive registration.
The registrations cover the name “Carlos Manzo” and “Movimiento Independiente del Sombrero,” according to Nieto’s remarks to reporters.
Quiroz submitted the filings on November 14, with the institute previously noting they were under analysis before this new assurance.
Carlos Alberto Manzo Rodríguez, an independent former mayor and Quiroz’s husband, was assassinated on November 1, as reported earlier.
Separately from the trademark process, Quiroz has publicly criticized the criminal investigation as incomplete and without real progress.
