ImphalGuwahati Bus Link Restored After Three Years

A heavy security presence has allowed cheaper road travel for students and patients.

Overview

  • Public bus services on National Highway 2 between Imphal, Dimapur and Guwahati resumed on Friday and continued into Saturday, carrying about 125 passengers on the inaugural run and roughly 200 on the second day.
  • Manipur police said the convoys were protected by multiple forces, including the CRPF, BSF, Assam Rifles and the army, with deployments at strategic points along the route.
  • Officials and passengers said the restart will cut travel costs sharply compared with same‑day flights and ease movement for students, medical patients and daily commuters.
  • The vehicles passed through Kuki-majority Kangpokpi and Naga-majority Senapati districts without incident, and officials described the smooth runs as a cautious test of restored connectivity.
  • The service revival follows Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh’s August 8 reopening order and comes against the backdrop of the May 3, 2023 Meitei–Kuki‑Zo clashes, leaving the security of sustained services and deeper reconciliation as key watchpoints.
