Overview
- Prince Hisahito will receive the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Chrysanthemum from the Emperor on Sept. 6, as approved by the cabinet.
- Hisahito’s rites begin with a crown-bestowal ceremony at the Akasaka Estate followed by the traditional Kakan no Gi and Choken no Gi at the Imperial Palace.
- Banquets hosting family members and government dignitaries will be held at private Tokyo facilities rather than the palace, marking a venue adaptation.
- Additional events include visits on Sept. 8 to Ise Jingu in Mie Prefecture and Emperor Jimmu’s mausoleum in Nara Prefecture, followed by a memorial and public luncheon.
- The ceremonies revive a practice last observed in 1985, after Hisahito deferred his coming-of-age celebration to focus on university entrance exams.
