IMPD Arrests Suspect in UPS Worker’s Killing as Case Moves to First Court Hearing

Investigators say surveillance footage, transit records, phone data and an anonymous tip led them to identify 28-year-old Parris Maul.

Overview

  • Parris Maul, 28, was taken into custody Monday in the 3800 block of Cooper Square Court and is being held in the Marion County Jail without bond on a murder charge.
  • The victim, 22-year-old La'Renzo Murray, was shot on Aug. 19 in the parking lot of a UPS distribution facility on West 81st Street and later died at a hospital.
  • A witness reported a hooded, masked gunman ran toward Murray and shot him before fleeing, and police say the suspect had waited near the facility for nearly an hour.
  • IMPD cites UPS security video, IndyGo bus footage and KeyCard transactions, a phone-location mapping report, and an anonymous tip as key evidence tying Maul to the scene.
  • An arrest warrant was issued Sept. 19, and court records show Maul’s initial hearing is scheduled Wednesday in Marion County.
