Overview
- At 5 a.m. ET, Tropical Depression Nine was about 100 miles west-southwest of the central Bahamas with 35 mph winds and is forecast to be named Imelda later Sunday and reach hurricane strength by late Monday or Tuesday.
- Tropical storm warnings cover parts of the central and northwestern Bahamas, and a tropical storm watch is posted along Florida’s east coast from the Palm Beach/Martin County line to Flagler/Volusia.
- Forecasters expect 6–12 inches of rain in the Bahamas and 2–4 inches with isolated totals near 7 inches from coastal Georgia into the Carolinas, with risks of flash, urban and river flooding and dangerous surf and rip currents.
