Overview

  • The IMD forecasts very heavy rainfall over the next six to seven days across northwest, central and east India, issuing red, orange and yellow alerts in multiple states.
  • Himachal Pradesh remains under red alert in districts including Mandi, Kangra and Sirmaur as rain-related incidents since June 20 have claimed 23 lives and disrupted over 250 roads, 614 transformers and 130 water schemes.
  • Evacuation teams in Odisha’s Balasore and Mayurbhanj districts are relocating residents from low-lying villages after rivers such as the Subarnarekha and Budhabalang rose above danger levels.
  • Yellow alerts cover coastal, north interior and south interior Karnataka, including Bengaluru, where scattered thunderstorms, lightning and heavy showers are expected to continue.
  • Monsoon showers have eased heatwave conditions in Delhi-NCR and brought relief to air quality even as waterlogging in Gurugram’s road network highlights urban drainage challenges.
