IMD Warns of Heavy Rain Through Sept 15; Orange Alerts for Bengaluru, Odisha and Parts of Bengal, Telangana

An active monsoon setup will produce short, intense downpours, raising risks of floods, landslides, power cuts, travel disruption.

  • IMD’s Bengaluru centre issued an orange alert for the city and its rural district, citing potential very heavy rain with 30–40 kmph gusts and reporting 52.8 mm in the city in 24 hours.
  • Odisha faces heavy rain from a cyclonic circulation over south Odisha and north coastal Andhra Pradesh, with an orange warning for Malkangiri and 30–40 kmph gusts forecast.
  • Telangana is under statewide alerts with several districts on orange; Hyderabad recorded multiple heavy spells on Sept 10 and the Met Centre forecasts heavy rain in many districts for the next five days.
  • Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim are under warnings for heavy to very heavy rainfall through mid-September, while Assam and the Northeast are forecast to see very heavy spells between Sept 12 and 15.
  • IMD cautioned of waterlogging, flash floods and landslides across vulnerable areas and advised fishermen to avoid rough seas along sections of the Andhra and Tamil Nadu coasts through Sept 13.
