Overview
- Two low-pressure areas over the southern peninsula and the Kanyakumari Sea are enhancing moisture and wind convergence, intensifying rainfall.
- Heavy rain is forecast for Coimbatore (hilly areas), Nilgiris, Erode, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Tirupattur, Vellore, Ranipet, Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur, especially in high-altitude zones.
- The IMD has urged fishermen to stay ashore as gusts of 35–45 km/h, peaking near 55 km/h, are likely over the southern Tamil Nadu coast, Gulf of Mannar, Kanyakumari Sea, parts of the Arabian Sea, the Karnataka–Kerala coast and near Lakshadweep.
- Rainfall intensity is expected to ease gradually from Thursday, with isolated heavy spells likely for about 24 hours in the Nilgiris and Western Ghats.
- Heavy showers are likely across Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Mahe, Andhra Pradesh and Coastal Karnataka through October 12, as the southwest monsoon withdraws further from parts of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra; Kerala is under yellow alerts in several districts.
