IMD has extended colour-coded warnings through mid-September due to a moisture-laden system centred near the GujaratRajasthan region.

Overview

  • The system over north Gujarat–southwest Rajasthan intensified into a deep depression and on Monday was centred over southeast Pakistan and adjoining Rajasthan and Kutch, with IMD warning of isolated extremely heavy falls (≥21 cm) in Saurashtra and Kutch on Sept 8–9.
  • Orange alerts continued for parts of Gujarat and Rajasthan, with broader yellow alerts across states including Sikkim, West Bengal, Uttarakhand, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Kerala and others through about Sept 14.
  • Delhi was forecast to get a spell of light to very light rain or thundershowers on Tuesday with no warning in effect, while Mumbai had no alert despite the chance of intermittent light to moderate showers.
  • State disaster reports highlighted ongoing impacts, with Himachal Pradesh recording a cumulative monsoon death toll of 366 and extensive disruptions to roads, power distribution and water supply schemes.
  • Marine advisories cautioned of rough conditions around the Andaman and Bay of Bengal sectors with possible ferry schedule changes, and the UK Met Office monitored a North Atlantic low that could bring heavy rain and strong winds with a possible named storm later this week.
