Overview
- Cold to severe cold wave conditions are expected in isolated areas of Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, East and West Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha, Jharkhand and Odisha for the next three to four days.
- Delhi’s Safdarjung station recorded 10.4°C, four degrees below normal, while Ayanagar fell to 9.9°C and nearby stations in Sikar, Churu, Bhiwani and Alwar registered sub‑10°C lows.
- A cold wave has not been declared for Delhi because only one station dipped below 10°C, and designation requires qualifying readings for two consecutive days, according to the IMD.
- Many parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, northern Haryana, Uttarakhand, East Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Madhya Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh and Uttar Pradesh reported minimums of 7–10°C with departures of 5.1°C or more below normal in places.
- The IMD issued a health advisory urging people to seek shelter at the first sign of shivering and advised light, frequent evening irrigation for crops, as cold northwesterly winds and clear skies are driving rapid night-time cooling.
