Overview

• The IMD has issued yellow alerts for thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds in major metros including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Chennai, along with over 30 districts in Maharashtra, West Bengal and Tamil Nadu.
• Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in northeastern states such as Assam and Meghalaya today, with intensity likely to ease over the coming days.
• The southwest monsoon has made an early and vigorous onset in Kerala, Karnataka and coastal regions and is forecast to spread further into central and eastern India.
• Rainfall has improved Delhi’s air quality into the ‘moderate’ category, but forecasters predict daytime highs of 38–40°C in the capital by June 8.
• Heatwave conditions are forecast for Odisha on June 5–6 and for western Rajasthan from June 8–11 as monsoon patterns shift and temperatures surge.
