Rising heat set to peak near 36°C prompts safety advisories from forecasters.

Overview

  • IMD’s Regional Meteorological Centre said Thursday the alert covers Mumbai, Thane and Palghar on April 10–11 with daytime highs near 35°C on Friday and about 36°C on Saturday.
  • Mumbai began Thursday with cloudy skies and a citywide Air Quality Index of 41 in the “good” range, though local sensors varied sharply, from a “poor” 143 to a “severe” 315 at Mirashi Nagar.
  • Short-range signals diverged for Thursday, with Google Weather flagging possible light rain as RMC Mumbai forecast mainly dry conditions for the city and suburbs.
  • Interior Maharashtra faces a split pattern, with light rain or thundershowers likely in Kolhapur, Sangli, Solapur, Latur and Dharashiv even as inland highs ran hotter, including Sholapur at 38.1°C and Jeur at 37.5°C.
  • IMD urged people to limit peak sun exposure, drink plenty of water, wear loose clothing and cover the head, and it asked farmers to keep up irrigation during the hot, humid spell.
