IMD Issues Red Alert for Heavy Rainfall and Snowfall in Northern India
Forecast predicts intense weather conditions due to western disturbances from February 18 to 21.
- The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Jammu Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall and snowfall at isolated places on February 19, 2024.
- An intense spell of rainfall or snowfall is expected over the Western Himalayan region from February 18 to 21, and the plains of Northwest India from February 19 to 21, due to western disturbances.
- Hailstorm activity is predicted at isolated places over the Jammu division and Himachal Pradesh in the next 24 hours, and over Uttarakhand on February 19 and 20.
- Scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall is forecasted over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh-Delhi, and West Uttar Pradesh from February 19 to 21.
- Shallow fog was reported in several parts of northern India, with dense fog causing traffic jams in Rajpura city, Punjab.
