Overview
- Cold wave conditions are forecast across central, eastern and northern Peninsular India during December 9–12, extending to northwest and western India during December 10–12.
- State-wise windows include Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Odisha on December 9–12; Punjab on December 10–12; Vidarbha and Telangana on December 9–10; and Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, north Rajasthan, Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada on December 11–12.
- Dense fog is expected in early mornings over Assam and Manipur from December 9–13, with East Uttar Pradesh and Odisha affected on December 9–10.
- IMD cautions fishermen to avoid the Comorin area of the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal zones including the Gulf of Mannar and the Tamil Nadu–Puducherry–Sri Lanka coast from December 8–13; thunderstorms with lightning and 30–40 kmph gusts are likely over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands from December 8–10.
- Recent minimums fell below 5°C in many northern locations with 4.5°C recorded at Faridkot and Gurdaspur, and IMD cites a cyclonic circulation, an active Western Disturbance, a trough in the easterlies and the Subtropical Westerly Jet as key drivers.
