IMD Forecasts Isolated Thunderstorms in 21 Telangana Districts

A trough linked to a cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal raises short‑term storm risk that could disrupt outdoor work and sustain heat stress in parts of Andhra Pradesh.

Overview

  • The India Meteorological Department has warned that thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds are very likely at isolated places in 21 Telangana districts for Monday, June 1.
  • A trough running from Vidarbha to a cyclonic circulation over the East Central Bay of Bengal is expected to produce light to moderate rain and thunderstorms in Rayalaseema districts such as Anantapur, Sri Sathya Sai, Kadapa, Annamayya and Chittoor and bring isolated showers across Andhra Pradesh through June 7.
  • Temperatures have eased in parts of Telangana but remain high in Andhra Pradesh, with the A. P. State Disaster Management Authority reporting a top reading of 44.3°C at Atchampeta and many locations recording 42–44°C.
  • APSDMA has advised people not to shelter under trees, electric poles or hoardings during storms and has urged farmers and shepherds to move to safer ground when they see dark clouds or lightning; sudden gusty winds and lightning pose risks to outdoor workers and local infrastructure.
  • Authorities are keeping heat precautions and localized storm preparedness in place, and residents should expect intermittent heavy downpours that could interrupt fieldwork, damage power lines and cause short‑term flooding in low‑lying areas.
