IMD Flags Week-Long Cold-Wave Pockets Across North, Central and East India

Delhi enters a brief warmer spell under a western disturbance.

  • India’s Met Department warned of isolated cold-wave conditions through the week across parts of Punjab and Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Odisha.
  • Delhi’s minimum rose to 6.8°C after 5.6°C a day earlier, with 8–10°C forecast through Monday, as air quality stayed in the very poor range around the low- to mid-300s and is projected to remain very poor for several days.
  • Kashmir remained below freezing with Shopian at −6.4°C and Srinagar at −4.1°C, and forecasters said light snowfall is possible over higher reaches on Monday.
  • Rajasthan’s cold intensified with Fatehpur at 2.3°C and Jaipur below 10°C, and the Jaipur Met Centre issued a seven-day cold-wave alert as frost was reported in mustard fields.
  • Kolkata logged its season-low 14.5°C with a dry week forecast across West Bengal, while Jharkhand issued a yellow alert after Gumla hit 3°C and Madhya Pradesh recorded widespread sub-10°C lows with fresh cold-wave advisories.
